Few album covers are as instantly recognisable as Blink-182\u2019s Enema of the State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Released in 1999, the artwork featured adult film actress Janine Lindemulder dressed as a nurse, smiling at the camera while pulling on a blue surgical glove. The image became inseparable from the album and remains one of the defining pieces of artwork from the pop-punk era. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lindemulder also appeared in the music video for \u201cWhat\u2019s My Age Again?\u201d, where she encounters Mark Hoppus, Tom DeLonge and Travis Barker as they run through Los Angeles without any clothes on. The video became a major MTV hit and helped introduce Blink-182 to a much wider audience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to accounts surrounding the album\u2019s creation, the band were shown photographs of several potential models and selected Lindemulder without initially knowing about her career in the adult entertainment industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The original concept was connected to an early working title for the album, Turn Your Head and Cough, before the band settled on Enema of the State. Early versions of the artwork also featured a red cross on Lindemulder\u2019s nurse hat, which was later changed because of restrictions surrounding the use of the symbol. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lindemulder later faced financial and legal problems, including a prison sentence connected to tax offences, while elements of her personal life were heavily covered by the media. However, reducing her story entirely to what happened afterwards misses the importance of her place in music history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
