Bloodstock has wasted absolutely no time looking ahead to 2027, revealing the first 27 bands for next year’s festival while the 2026 edition is still underway at Catton Park.
The first announcement confirms Mercyful Fate, Electric Callboy and Motionless In White as the three Ronnie James Dio Stage headliners for Bloodstock Open Air 2027.
The festival will return to Catton Park, Derbyshire, from August 5–8, 2027, and the opening wave already features a seriously varied mix of established metal heavyweights, modern metalcore and some considerably heavier names further down the bill.
Electric Callboy and Motionless In White step up
Two of the biggest talking points are undoubtedly Electric Callboy and Motionless In White being given headline slots.
Both bands have experienced huge growth in recent years, and their elevation to the top of the Bloodstock bill represents another major milestone for the modern generation of heavy music.
Electric Callboy arrive at the announcement on the same day as the release of their new album TANZNEID, while Motionless In White are currently in the Decades era following the release of their seventh studio album in July.
They’ll be joined at the top of the bill by Danish heavy metal legends Mercyful Fate, bringing King Diamond and co. back to Bloodstock after previously headlining the festival in 2022.

Meanwhile, the first names confirmed for the Sophie Lancaster Stage are:

The announcement confirms all three Ronnie James Dio Stage headliners as well as the four Sophie Lancaster Stage headliners, with around 100 more bands still to come.
A different-looking Bloodstock?
The choice of Electric Callboy and Motionless In White as headliners is already generating plenty of discussion among Bloodstock fans.
Some have welcomed the festival giving newer bands an opportunity to make the jump to headline status, while others have questioned whether the bookings represent Bloodstock moving closer towards the broader modern-rock territory traditionally associated with festivals such as Download.
Either way, underneath the headliners there is plenty for the heavier end of the Bloodstock audience, with Acid Bath, DevilDriver, Decapitated, Humanity’s Last Breath, Pig Destroyer, Gaerea, Kanonenfieber and Gutalax among an extremely heavy first wave.
And with the vast majority of the 2027 line-up still to be announced, this is only the beginning.
