Metal For Nepal Launches Emergency Appeal Following Devastating Flash Floods

The organisation is calling on the global metal community to help provide emergency supplies, clean water and support to families affected by severe flooding in Nepal.

Metal For Nepal has launched an emergency fundraising appeal after severe flash flooding struck parts of Nepal, displacing families and causing widespread damage to communities and infrastructure.

The flooding swept down the Bhotekoshi River on the morning of August 26, hitting settlements across the Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts, as well as the Gyirong border area on the China-Nepal border.

Officials reported that there had been no rainfall in the region beforehand, with experts suspecting the disaster may have been caused by a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood originating in Tibet. Flood warnings were subsequently extended downstream along the Trishuli River.

Communities Hit by Severe Damage

According to information released by Metal For Nepal, villages and settlements along the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers have been washed away or badly damaged, including areas around Timure and Syabrubesi.

Six major hydropower and transmission facilities were also damaged, resulting in the loss of an estimated 430MW of power — around one-eighth of Nepal’s installed capacity.

The Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police have been deployed alongside helicopters as search-and-rescue efforts continue.

Authorities are still assessing the full human impact of the disaster. Metal For Nepal says a significant number of children are among those affected, with people displaced from their homes and left without access to shelter, clean water and other basic necessities.

Metal For Nepal Mobilises Emergency Response

Metal For Nepal is now working through its established network of local NGO partners to provide assistance on the ground.

Its response will range from immediate emergency supplies and clean water to longer-term rebuilding efforts, with particular attention being given to the welfare of children while providing support to affected community members of all ages.

Metal For Nepal Director Flower KC called on the heavy metal and tattoo communities to once again come together in support of Nepal:

“The heavy metal and tattoo community has always shown up for people in need, and this moment is no different.”

The organisation says donations will go towards providing support to families and children affected by the disaster.

A History Rooted in the Metal Community

Metal For Nepal itself was born out of disaster relief.

The non-profit organisation was founded in 2015 by Nepalese metal band Underside following two devastating earthquakes in the country.

With support from the global metal community and Switzerland’s No Silence for Nepal Association, the organisation says it subsequently helped build more than 300 homes in the Gorkha district.

Since then, Metal For Nepal has continued working across the country through projects including food and ration distribution, vaccination campaigns, community support and initiatives designed to improve children’s access to education.

How You Can Help

Metal For Nepal is asking for donations of any size to help its local partners provide immediate emergency assistance to families and children who have lost their homes.

The organisation is also asking the metal community to help spread awareness of the appeal through news coverage and social media.

Donations can be made directly through Metal For Nepal’s Emergency Appeal 2026.

The situation remains fast-moving, and casualty or missing-person figures have not been included while authorities continue to establish verified information.
