Wage War Drops Crushing Single ‘SWEET DREAMS’

Wage War have released their new standalone single ‘SWEET DREAMS’, a crushing return that ranks among the strongest metalcore releases of the year so far.

The Florida five-piece have spent the past decade balancing melody with increasingly punishing heaviness, but ‘SWEET DREAMS’ strips things back towards the latter. Following the recent It Calls Me By Name EP, the new track continues a period in which Wage War appear increasingly comfortable embracing the most brutal elements of their sound.

There is still plenty of what makes Wage War immediately recognisable. Briton Bond’s screams sit at the centre of a track built around tightly controlled riffs, huge rhythmic shifts and the kind of breakdown the band have made a career out of delivering. But rather than simply revisiting their earlier material, ‘SWEET DREAMS’ feels like a distillation of what they have learned across the last decade.

That is something the band themselves acknowledge.

“‘Sweet Dreams’ is a song about being deceived by the world around you. About safety in a sense of blissful ignorance. Sonically, it draws inspiration from all of our previous work over the last 10 years.”

It makes for a particularly effective three-and-a-half minutes. Modern metalcore is hardly short of enormous production and even bigger breakdowns, but ‘SWEET DREAMS’ has enough urgency behind it to avoid feeling manufactured around those moments. It is immediate, aggressive and arguably one of Wage War’s strongest singles in recent years.

Wage War announce biggest UK and European headline tour yet

The release comes ahead of Wage War’s return to the UK and Europe in January 2027, when they will embark on their biggest headline run in the region to date.

Invent Animate and Windwaker will support across the tour, which begins in Cardiff on January 15 before heading to London, Manchester, Glasgow and Birmingham. European dates in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany follow.
