Bret Michaels has cancelled all of his remaining performances scheduled for 2026 after doctors advised the Poison frontman to take an extended break from touring.
The 63-year-old returned to the stage at The Bowl at Sugar Hill in Georgia on Friday, August 21, marking his first performance since undergoing surgery for a complicated obstructing kidney stone.
However, following the show, doctors and paramedics determined that Michaels still required additional time to recover from his recent medical procedures.
“Bret will be taking the next several months off to heal and get back to 100%,” Michaels Entertainment Group confirmed in a statement.
His doctors have now instructed the singer to remain off the road while he undergoes a slower period of recovery. They cited the effects that summer heat and humidity could have on his blood sugar levels as an additional concern.
Michaels has lived with Type 1 diabetes since he was six years old.
Michaels admits he may have returned too soon
The singer initially suffered severe kidney stone pain during a series of performances in July. After waiting almost seven days for the stone to pass, he was admitted to hospital and underwent emergency surgery.
Michaels later had a ureteral stent inserted and was temporarily restricted to light physical activity while recovering.
Despite hoping that his Sugar Hill performance would mark his return to touring, Michaels subsequently acknowledged that his eagerness to get back onstage may have led him to return prematurely.
“I may have just chosen to go sooner than I should have,” he told fans following the announcement.
The cancellation affects the remainder of Michaels’ 2026 touring schedule, including his planned appearance at Mountain Music Festival and several private events.
Michaels thanked his fans, family, band, crew and medical team for their support, while assuring followers that he remains determined to perform again once he has received a complete bill of health.
Michaels Entertainment Group said it now looks forward to seeing him return “healthy, strong and ready to rock.”
No replacement or rescheduled dates have currently been announced.
