The Prince of Darkness is coming home once again.
Birmingham will honour one of its greatest-ever cultural icons on Tuesday, July 22, by hosting the city’s first-ever Ozzy Day, celebrating the extraordinary life and legacy of Ozzy Osbourne.
One year after the legendary Black Sabbath frontman passed away, the city where heavy metal was born is paying tribute with a free day of events dedicated to the man who helped put Birmingham on the global music map.
Fans from across the UK are expected to descend on the city for a packed programme of celebrations featuring live music, brass band performances, exhibitions, film screenings, public art installations and exclusive merchandise.
One of the highlights of the day will see The Bostin Brass Band perform instrumental versions of Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath classics at locations across Birmingham:
- 8:30am – Birmingham New Street
- 10:00am – Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery
- 11:30am – Selfridges
- 12:45pm – Black Sabbath Bench
- 3:00pm – Martineau Place
Visitors will also have the opportunity to explore some of Birmingham’s most iconic Ozzy landmarks, including the Black Sabbath Bench, while Selfridges will stock a limited-edition Ozzy Day T-shirt exclusively for the occasion.
Another major attraction will be the chance to see Ozzy’s throne from the historic Back To The Beginning farewell concert, alongside photo opportunities with the giant Ozzy Bull statue, which has quickly become one of the city’s most recognisable tributes to the rock legend.
For generations of rock and metal fans, Birmingham is far more than just Ozzy’s hometown—it’s the birthplace of heavy metal itself. Alongside Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward, Ozzy helped create a sound that would inspire countless bands and forever change the course of music history.
More than five decades after Black Sabbath first emerged from the streets of Aston, Birmingham continues to embrace the legacy of its most famous son.
Ozzy Day isn’t simply about remembering a music icon—it’s a celebration of a man whose influence transformed an industrial city into the spiritual home of heavy metal.
